Assessment were higher than last year. Last year we brought in $3000, this year
we brought in $3,570.
ITEM NO. 5 - COMMUNICATIONS: None
ITEM NO. 6 - UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
The All-State Band results are posted on the web site.
Ideas were discussed of ways to improve the number of students who make
All-State from our county:
1) We could hire someone from the outside to record our students.
2) Find a new site to host the auditions. Better equipment can only benefit the
students.
3) $5 can be added to the assessment fee to fund these ideas.
4) Each director can give their students that audition some kind of
incentive.Ms. Suris thanked all of the middle school directors for sending
students to perform the Star Spangled Banner; and she thanked Raymond Diaz and
the Clearwater Boosters for hosting the Marching Performance Assessment.
Discussed the proposal to change the classification system:
1) All directors were in favor of the new classification system.
2) A couple of directors expressed concern about the new classification system
being on the honor system. The concern is that other directors may take the easy
way out and put their bands is a classification lower than they should be so the
director won’t have to do as much work.
Motion - Williams/Kile: Move to support the proposal. Passed.
ITEM NO. 7 - COMMITTEE REPORTS: None.
ITEM NO. 8 - NEW BUSINESS:
Solo and Ensemble Festival is February 8-9, 2002. We originally voted that Gibbs
would host the festival, but we have not received a letter from the principal
yet. Madeline Dunsizer from Hopkins Middle offered to host and would check with
her principal. Concern was expressed that because they end so late in the day
the festival won’t be able to get started until much later.
"Festivals" scheduling disk for S&E and Concert Festival are due
to the District Chairman by January 16, 2002. Be on time or you will be fined!
On the 15th day after the original deadline for submission, no entry forms will
be accepted. Assessment form and check must accompany entry.High School Music
Performance Assessment is March 15 & 16 at Pinellas Park High School.
Discussed adding an additional judge to clinic the bands.
Motion - Kile/Ford: We adopt the use of two additional clinicians for Concert
Festival to provide a clinic following Sightreading. Passed.
Middle School Music Performance Assessment is April 18-20. As of right now
there is no site. Two school are checking with their principals.Discussed the
option of using another company for recording. Decided to
stay with Chris Gaines because he is local in case something comes up; and we
can show him how to get the exact sound we want on our CD’s.

ITEM NO. 15 - GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION:
Robin Benoit - The Middle School All-County concert will be April 8 at the
Mahaffey Theater. Tony Fuoco will be conducting the Middle School Jazz Band,
Wayne Gallops will be conducting the Middle School Concert Band, and
Mike Robinson will be conducting the High School Concert Band. All bands will be
by audition.
Randall Kile - Look over the rules for S&E Festival. A few directors were penalized at the Marching MPA because they weren’t aware of the rules.
Randall Kile - Appreciated seeing our bands on TV. Thank you to Jeanne
Reynolds for working so hard to make this happen.
Robin Benoit - Tom Stovall went into a diabetic coma over Thanksgiving break.
While he was at the hospital they found heart problems and will be undergoing a
quadruple by-pass surgery on Wednesday, November 28.
Chip Wood - Introduced Brenda Keatin, an intern at Seminole High from USF.
Kevin Ford - Asked if there was any way for high school bands not to attend
away football games. If band students are allowed to have a little more of a
life it might help some of the border line kids decide to participate in band.
The students already feel isolated from the rest of the student body because of
all the activities they are asked to perform in, they need to hang out with
their friends on some Friday nights. Jeanne Reynolds - Already brought this up
to the principals and they rejected the idea. She will keep trying.
