CALL TO ORDER AND INTRODUCTORY REMARKS
Chairman Robert Allen called the meeting of District 19 of the Florida
Bandmasters Association to order at 7:12 PM at Angelo's Italian Restaurant in
Tavares, FL. The Chairman welcomed all members. He also thanked Martin, the host
from Angelo's, who was taking care of us.

READING OF PREVIOUS MINUTES
The minutes were accepted as printed and posted on the web site.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The balance in the checkbook as of April 25, 2002 stands at $3,331.65. Chairman
Allen reported that the State Assessment Fee has not been paid. He also reported
that he boosted the proposed budget for next year by a few hundred dollars to
around $24,000.
READING OF COMMUNICATIONS
There were no communications or announcements.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. The Chairman noted that Adjudication Forms should be sent to Bentley
Shellahammer at Florida State.
2. Some discussion was made about the High School Concert MPA Adjudication
Panel. Comments were made that it was a strong panel. Ms. Alexander said that
she appreciated knowing how her band was playing in respect to the rest of the
state.
3. Comments about Solo & Ensemble MPA: Thanks to Umatilla HS and Ms. Dawn Pantke
for hosting the event. Mr Hart remarked that he would like to have seen "the
best piano put in the piano judge's room."
4. Tina Laferriere discussed the reclassification proposal.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. District Honors Band: No report at this time.
NEW BUSINESS
1. The date for High School Concert MPA will be March 14 - 15, 2003.
2. The date for Middle School Concert MPA will be February 28 - March 1, 2003.
ADJUDICATORS FOR 2002-2003
1. Members who are adjudicators need to get their updated information to Bentley
as soon as possible!
2. Marching MPA: David Ammerman (Astronaut HS), John McGallagher (St. Lucie West
MS) Bruce Brazinski (Parrott MS), Norma Dearing (auxiliary), Charles Evans
(percussion). Still need one more music judge.
3. Solo & Ensemble MPA: Ronald Youmans, Jerome Edwards, W.L. "Bill" Thompson,
Mary Kay Thompson, Sue Messer.
4. Jazz MPA: Johnnie Robinson, Andrew Kidd.
5. Chairman asked for ideas from the membership for adjudicators. Names
mentioned were:

SITES FOR 2002-2003 FESTIVALS
1. Marching Band MPA - Letter submitted by Leesburg High School
MOTION: Leschak/Braddon To allow Leesburg HS to host Marching Festival PASSED
2. Solo & Ensemble MPA - Letters submitted by Umatilla High and South Sumter
High
The Chairman called for a vote after much discussion. The district voted to have
Solo & Ensemble MPA at South Sumter HS.
3. Jazz Band MPA - Letter submitted by Tavares High School to host at
Lake-Sumter CC.
MOTION: Wunsch/Ricke To allow Tavares HS to host Jazz MPA at LSCC. PASSED
4. No letters were submitted for Middle School MPA.
5. High School MPA - Letter submitted by Robert Mullinax on behalf of East Ridge
HS.
MOTION: Leschak/Wunsch To postpone the decision on this site until the next
meeting. PASSED
6. All-State Auditions - Blue Lake Academy - September 14, 2002. Tavares Middle
will be the back-up site.
NOMINATIONS FOR ADJUDICATORS LIST
District 19 has none at this time.
SUGGESTIONS TO ANY COMMITTEES
To District Honors Band: Allen Chambers suggested that we continue to use medals
instead of patches at Honors Band.
PROPOSALS TO THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
District 19 has none at this time.
CORRESPONDENCE
District 19 has none at this time.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION
Doug Yopp presented Chris Sego with the "Best Use of Duct Tape In An
Assessment Setting" for his use of duct tape to fix a 4-valve rotary tuba at
Middle School MPA.
Band Directors announced the dates for their spring concerts.
Chairman Allen encouraged all the directors to attend the F.B.A. Summer
Convention in Altamonte Springs, FL on July 11 - 13, 2002.
Job Openings - Fort King Middle School, Oak Park Middle School
Retirements - Bob Allen (Fort King Middle School) is retiring and is joining
Walters Photography doing composites; Bob Thompson (Bringe Music) is retiring
and Alonzo Braddon will be taking over in Citrus and Marion Counties.
Chairman Allen thanked the District for their support the past two years and
said that it was an enjoyable experience this go 'round.
Opus Recording - Jeff has still not resolved the problems. However, Terry Moo
and Good Moos Productions did an excellent job with recording the HS Concert
Band MPA.
Mr. Coney remarked that the All-State audition material will come out in May
and he instructed band directors to be sure that the students get them!
Mr. Ricke added that we should be sure the students know which exercise is
first and which is second.
Mrs. Wunsch noted that we need to have good equipment for the All-State
Auditions.

NEXT DISTRICT MEETING
The next meeting of District 19 of the Florida Bandmasters Association will be
held Saturday, August 17, 2002. Chairman Venezio will send out letters with
location and time. It will be a breakfast meeting.
