Treasurer’s Report

Current balance (after State Festival deduction) is $8,337.70; the 2001/2002 proposed budget $64,800. The Chairman noted that the proposed budget is still based upon a $1.00 State assessment, which could change. Also, regarding cost of increased participation, Neil Jenkins indicated that Broward County Band supplements are dependant upon participation in some type of evaluation tool such as FBA Festival. Chairman Humphreys advised the District to accept a "State Festival Assessment" item increase of $2000 to cover possible shortfalls.

Motion: McClain/Rubio to accept the budget as amended. PASSED

Reading of Communications

The Chairman read a letter from Walters Photography introducing a contract proposition, to be reconsidered at the fall District meeting. Another letter, from Music Education Center, requested a proposal be made in the form of a motion regarding FBA sponsorship equity for ALL county businesses. Deferred to New Business.

Unfinished Business

The Chairman thanked all for their hearty participation in the indoor festival events. Several members suggested improvements could be made in the selection process for adjudicators; the Chairman volunteered Mr. John Rusnak to chair an ad hoc research committee. Other suggestions included having 40 minute time blocks for jazz bands; having the Festival Programmer schedule in time blocks; having concert festival guides more closely monitor stage progress before moving bands.

The Chairman thanked Neil Jenkins and Nikk Pilato for their hundreds of volunteer hours in helping de-bug and schedule our many events, some up to the very last minute! A very sincere thanks was offered to the FBA Student Office Staff that tirelessly attended every hour of every event this year to serve and coordinate other workers. Staff included Melissa McClain (Western HS); Corey Chartan, Kira Bokalders, Stephanie Bates and Stephanie Alger from Taravella HS. Also, a tremendously large thanks was given to festival site hosts, student workers and parents, including South Plantation (Larry Brewer), JP Taravella (Neil Jenkins/Nikk Pilato), Olsen (Kim VanLandingham), Ramblewood (John Nista) and Flanagan (Jay Dorfman/John Davis/Danny Lieberman).
