Bonus Points on School Grades for Music/Arts Classes
Posted 3/11/2010 1:00:00 PM

On Wednesday, March 17,SB 820 (Bonus points on school grades for fine arts enrollment) will be heard in the Senate Pre-K – 12 Education Committee, between 8 am and 10 am.

Please make an effort between now and Wednesday morning to call or email your Senator and ask for their support on SB 820.  The links for the senators below will take you to their home pages which list telephone information and contain email links.  (Please remember to use personal email accounts if you are emailing.)  It would be helpful to activate booster organizations and community music and arts education supporters for this effort.

This is the first step of several in moving this bill through the legislative process.

The message for your senator (most likely you’ll speak to an aide) is very simple:  “I’m your constituent and would like you to support SB 820 sponsored by Senator Wise.”  Phone calls may be made to either the local district office for your senator or their Tallahassee office.

Members of the Committee include:

Senator Larcenia Bullard – Monroe and parts of Broward, Collier, Hendry, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

Senator Lee Constantine – parts of Orange and Seminole Counties

Senator Nancy Detert, Chair – parts of Charlotte, Manatee, and Sarasota counties (She’s a supporter of this bill and made a point of putting the bill on her committee agenda – please thank her!)

Senator Don Gaetz, parts of Bay, Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton counties

Senator Ronda Storms – parts of Hillsborough, Pasco, and Polk counties

Senator Frederica Wilson – part of Miami-Dade county

Senator Stephen Wise – sponsor of SB 820 – parts of Clay, Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns counties. (If you are a constituent of Senator Wise – please thank him for his work on this bill.)

Your calls and emails make a big difference on how things go in Tallahassee – please help by taking the requested action.
