  1. If you wrote or called a member on the Senate Education K-12 Committee prior to Thursday and are a constituent of one of the members, please follow up with an email similar to this:

“We appreciate the adoption of the amendment to SB 610 which is a big improvement over the original bill; however, concerns about music and art courses being marginalized remain. Please take the initiative to see that a technical amendment is adopted that ensures the methods used to inform parents what options are available for PE; and how course choices will be determined by school districts. How will districts know to include existing arts courses?”

It is important to let the committee members know that you appreciate the forward progress, but we’re not done – and you will keep watching to see what the progress is.

If you are constituent of Senator Gaetz, please make a special effort to THANK HIM for his efforts on our behalf. If you are a constituent of Senator Deutch”s, please THANK HIM for his supports and vote “against” this bill until the technical issues are addressed

  2. Review the members of the Health Policy Committee and the Education Appropriations K-12 Committee. The constituents of these members will need to respond to the next legislative alerts as the bill is scheduled for the next hearing.
  3. Have a plan for your spring break! Arrange to monitor your email or the FMEA/FSMA website daily for new action alerts. Have a plan to communicate with your community supporters if an alert happens during your district's break.
