Nov. 2009 - A very special thanks from FEMEA to the Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educators Council for its donation to our scholarship fund. As the teachers wrote, "Please accept this donation for the Janice Lancaster Professional Development Scholarship fund on behalf of the Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educators Council. We are very excited about the many opportunities that these scholarships give to the many deserving teachers around our state!"

Merchandise

Early heads-up: FEMEA shirts, bags and other merchandise will be available again at the conference.  They were very popular last year. The proceeds will be used for the FEMEA Janice Lancaster Professional Development Scholarship fund, a new project of FEMEA which was introduced at the 2008 conference. Not pictured are new items is the  ladies knit shirt with a more feminine neckline.

News

It's time to renew your MENC/FMEA/FEMEA dues. Membership runs from June 1 - May 31.  Renew online here.

Opportunities

Let your district chair know that you would be willing to be a session facilitator at conference.  This takes little of your time and it's a huge assist in making the sessions go smoothly.  Contact your district chair by Sept. 30.

What is The Curriculum Fair?  Each year, the FEMEA Board of Directors selects and invites accomplished teachers to present innovative ideas in the annual Elementary Curriculum Fair. To be selected or invited to participate in the Curriculum Fair is indeed an honor, as well as a responsibility. Each participant selects a lesson plan or curricular idea of particular interest and prepares a corresponding presentation board and handouts. The participant presents his/her ideas with a smile and sharing attitude during the designated Curriculum Fair time. Conference attendees visit the Curriculum Fair to glean new ideas to use with their own students.

What is the Resource Room?  There is a special room set up at conference that allows teachers to display resources that they have found useful.  You can find all kinds of resources there including teacher created and/or purchased resources.  Volunteers offer their resources for other teachers to peruse.  The room, when open, is always staffed by one of our awesome district chairpersons.

The FEMEA Professional Development video collection, in the process of being converted to DVD, is available for members to check out.  Download Media Library Request Form here. Print it and send it to Anita Travaligno (contact information is in the download).

Use your open house this fall to advocate for music in your school.  See the links page for assistance.

Start planning how you will choose and rehearse with your All-State Chorus applicants.

Plan a field trip to a nearby Music Demonstration School.  Car pool w-ith other music teachers and make the travel time fun!
